Statement for the Network

Feminist Climate Justice Mena Network

MENA region is one of the most vulnerable regions against the negative impacts of the climate crisis. The already existing vulnerability of women and girls in the region keeps increasing with those impacts. Especially, in rural and less-developed areas, they cannot access their basic rights: clean water, food, education, sanitary and hygiene products for their menstrual cycle, health services, sexual and reproductive health, and rights.

We, as RAWSA Alliance, are aware of this vulnerable context in the region and advocate for gender equality and climate justice with this awareness. We believe that mitigation of the impacts of the climate crisis cannot be gender-neutral; climate action must be tackled with a feminist perspective and women must be included in the decision-making processes and policies relevant to climate change on national and international levels. Initiatives like COP conferences should be increased and become more effective in climate policies and decisions and should promote more women’s leadership. All gender equality and climate justice defenders are welcome to join our Feminist Climate Justice MENA Network to advocate for gender-based climate justice and make a significant difference in favor of women’s and girls’ lives in the region.
